Introduction to the Nutrition and Dietetics Department​

• ​The Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Iğdır University's Faculty of Health Sciences began its educational activities in 2021. The program lasts 8 semesters, and the language of instruction is Turkish. The aim of the Nutrition and Dietetics program is to train innovative, research-oriented dietitians who can provide consulting services to society, conduct education, and carry out research aligned with international standards. These professionals are dedicated to protecting, improving, and enhancing community health and quality of life through balanced and adequate nutrition while adhering to universal values, Atatürk's principles, and reforms. The curriculum is structured according to the Higher Education Council’s Core Education Program (CEP) for Nutrition and Dietetics and includes both theoretical and practical courses. The first three years are focused on building a foundational knowledge base, with courses in basic medical sciences (such as anatomy, physiology, medical biology, and genetics) that provide the groundwork for professional courses in later years. In addition to a summer internship at the end of the third year, students complete practical training at various hospitals, institutions, and organizations during their final year. To graduate, students must complete all required and elective courses across 8 semesters, achieving a total of 240 ECTS credits. Nutrition and Dietetics is a field specializing in the development of nutritional habits necessary for a healthy life, the design of balanced and healthy diet programs, and the prevention and treatment of diseases. In this department, students learn about the relationship between nutrients and the body, the chemical structure of foods, their effects on human health, and the connection between nutrition and various diseases. Graduates who successfully complete this program earn the title of "Dietitian." Dietitians assess the nutritional status of individuals or communities, create personalized diet plans, and provide nutritional education.
